A performance by Stevie Nicks, handwritten vows, high school friends and a “garden inside the Garden” were among the highlights of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s star-studded wedding in New York.
The pop superstar and the three-time NFL Super Bowl champion, both 36, married on Friday at Madison Square Garden under tight security, with around 1,000 guests reportedly required to sign non-disclosure agreements.
Swift’s publicist, Tree Paine, confirmed the wedding in a brief statement, revealing that the couple wore Christian Dior, Christian Louboutin and Cartier.
More details emerged on Saturday as ABC’s Good Morning America hosts Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and former NFL star Michael Strahan shared their experience of attending the celebration.
Stephanopoulos described the ceremony as “as intimate as it could possibly be, given that it was Madison Square Garden,” saying the couple had transformed the iconic venue into “this garden inside the Garden.”
“It’s hard to imagine that a place that big and a wedding with such stars could feel so personal and so intimate,” he said.
Roberts revealed that Swift and Kelce wrote their own vows, while Stephanopoulos said the couple read from small books as comedian Adam Sandler officiated.
“They had their neighbors, their high school friends. It was like any wedding that you would attend,” Roberts said, confirming that Stevie Nicks performed during the celebration.
The guest list, however, was anything but ordinary, featuring celebrities including Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid, Hugh Grant, Bradley Cooper, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid, NFL legend Tom Brady and Kelce’s teammates.
AMC CEO Adam Aron, in a post later deleted from X, described the venue as resembling “an outdoor garden at a lush countryside retreat.” He praised the couple’s vows as personal, emotional, humorous and heartfelt.
Singer Nelly also shared a video on Instagram calling the wedding “incredible.”
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement last August with an Instagram post captioned, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The wedding comes after another milestone year for Swift, marked by the success of her album The Life of a Showgirl, her induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and a new song featured on the Toy Story 5 soundtrack.
Kelce, meanwhile, is preparing for his 14th NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs while continuing to co-host the popular New Heights podcast with his brother Jason, who served as his best man. -AFP
